ADMINISTRATION BUILDING IN MALAGA
The building, which is located in the historical city centre, tries to reach its own identity among the rest of institutional headquarters through three different ways:
- The ground floor appears partially opened next to Ollerías Street allowing the expansion of the public road towards the inside of the plot. The street and the main courtyard of the building are thus synergically linked. This leads to the creation of a mixed space that is united to the rest of squares on the adjoining environment. At the new square the pedestrians going in and out of the building are mixed with the rest of people passing by. Furthermore, this square-courtyard means a space of exchange that emphasizes the public character of the building all in all increasing its service to the citizenship within the urban scene where it is located.
- The façades facing Ollerías Street and Eduardo Ocón Street have been built with a folding clad of corten steel. This contributes to the singularity of the building taking into account the residential typology of the surrounding façades. Due to the chemical oxidation, the skin will show a changeable appearance throughout the building’s life. In addition, it will gradually acquire a distressed heterogeneous texture that blends in the chromatic range of the town centre and its monuments.
- An ecological roof made of vegetable substrate that turns to be conceptually the fifth façade of the project.
The proposal acquires thus the image of a ferrous mass inserted in a cavity formed by the surrounding dividing walls. This image is drilled vertically through a series of courtyards of different height, which introduce natural lighting and cross ventilation in all the work rooms and sequence as well the transit areas. Besides, these courtyards contribute to solve any problems with the light supply.
